Why you'd want to live in Cat Mountain
Cat Mountain’s high-end homes come in a variety of styles, but their known for sharing two common features: their large decks and rooftop patios. The reason so many homes have these is that this area is very hilly and provides some great views. Cat Mountain is located just north of RM 2222 between Mopac (Loop 1) and Highway 360. There are truly spectacular views to be had of both the sparkling downtown skyline (including the iconic UT tower) and, in the other direction, of sunsets on Lake Austin. Speaking of Lake Austin, it’s just a short drive down to the docks and all the boating and water activities. Cat Mountain offers its residents both privacy and an active homeowner’s association, Cat Mountain Villas Association-which even sponsors a book club. Cat Mountain is a highly desirable community and its distinctive homes (many built in the 1970s) range from the high 300’s to over 1 million. Cat Mountain feels a bit like an enclave outside (or above?) the city. But it’s very close to the heart of Austin. It’s minutes from downtown and UT, and it offers very easy access to Mopac, 183 and Highway 360. All of the high-end shops, restaurants and entertainment options of The Arboretum and The Domain are just minutes away. You can be on your deck, decide it’s time to hit some golf balls while having a beer, and be at Top Golf at the Domain in minutes. Or maybe today’s the day for bowling—Punch Bowl Social is right nearby. Or maybe today is more of a lake day. A short drive down the hill brings you to the docks of Lake Austin. If you decide to stay in the community, you can take advantage of neighborhood amenities that include a community pool, tennis courts, and a clubhouse. But probably the real question is why would you ever want to leave your luxurious rooftop patio, gazing down on the Austin skyline with drinks in hand?
