The Austin MS-150 Is Here
Have you ever heard of the MS-150? It's a bike ride...pedaling...from Houston to Austin. Most people's first question is "Uh....why would you do something crazy like that?" Well, I'll tell you...
I have a friend who has given Multiple Sclerosis a face for me. For her, and many others like her, I'll be riding my bike this weekend from Houston to Austin, in order to raise money for research. And if I hit $2500 raised, my legs get shaved... $2000 gets my head shaved, and we're already very close to that!
Yesterday, I took a training ride for 76.5 miles in and around Georgetown and Liberty Hill areas. It was brutal...much of it being into a headwind. I didn't bring enough food and by the 54 mile mark I was tired. By 70 miles, I was ready to call my wife and ask her to come get me. But I thought of my friend. She CAN'T give up...so I won't either. I finished the ride proud, but exhausted.
So...both Ashley AND Russ are busy fundraising. Since we are very compe! ...

I-35 Going Underground?
Austin's I-35 Highway Could Be Going Underground. I was in the Paramount Theater a few years back enjoying a concert where David Wilcox was playing. In between songs, he was talking about arriving in Austin and getting his first look around, and I remember he made the strangest face when he mentioned that "there's this strange elevated interstate..." Before that moment, I'd never thought of our elevated I-35 as being odd in anyway, except maybe that one time my mother spun out her Buick on the upper deck in an ice storm.
I-35 Has Always Been Significant to Downtown Austin
In addition to the untraditional highway design, I remember, having grown up here, that the I-35 has always been something of a dividing line between the "East Side" and "West Side." And of course, there's been a stigma, though most recently with "Smart Growth" development strategies, new condo towers, and office buildings, we're seeing a lot more folks in Downtown Austin than when I was a. ...

Shopping For Texas Horse Properties.
Sometimes working with horse owners can be very challenging. They can range from crusty old cowboys that see their horses as "employees" to wealthy folks who treat their equines like royalty. And their opinions go right along with the paradigm that they come from.
The Right Land For Horses
Just because you have some amount of land, it doesn't mean you have an "equestrian property" per se. Obviously, the more land, the better, at least in terms of grazing forage. But it makes a huge difference about what kind of land too. Is it rocky? Is the topography dangerous? Are there trees to shade your ponies? Just having some acreage in Central Texas doesn't qualify your property as a great place for a pony to take up residence. There are areas around Central Texas where acreage tracts are available, but with the limestone formations, the topsoil is often very thin, and so there's not much grass. Rock outcroppings are common in this area as well. With the . ...

Austin Welcomes the X Games
[caption id="attachment_15343" align="aligncenter" width="600"] X Games Come to Austin![/caption]
As if the Central Texas summers weren't hot enough already, they are about to get even hotter with the X Games coming to Austin! After eleven years of hosting the X Games in Los Angeles, the action-packed sports games are packing up, saying farewell to the West Coast and moving east to Central Texas. In May of 2014 the X Games will move into their new home at the Circuit of the Americas, which is a new race track located just a few minutes outside of Central Austin that hosts sporting events and concerts. In addition to changing cities, the X Games are also changing their time frame. Traditionally the X Games are held in August but because of the insanely hot Austin summers, the X Games will now be held in May. The 1,500 acres of the Circuit of the Americas in Austin beat out Chicago, Detroit, and Charlotte, North Carolina for the gig. But why would a race tra. ...
