So Georgetown will always maintain that connection to its history and the charm of small, old-town Texas. Homes for sale in Georgetown TX aren't just modern beauties--they're historic classics as well.
3. The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas
What can you say? When you've got, you've got it. And Georgetown has the Most Beautiful Town Square in the great state of Texas. The Beaux-Arts Williamson County Courthouse anchors the beautifully-preserved downtown, which features a variety of businesses from financial advising firms, spas and guitar stores to restaurants and cafes. It also hosts Second Saturday Market Days from March through November and the annual Christmas tree lighting. In 1997, Georgetown was the first city in Texas named a national Main Street City.
4. #2 City To 'Live and Launch' In the Entire USA
In 2008, CNN Money 'canvassed the country to find towns with the best mix of business advantages and lifestyle appeal...to find the perfect place to build your dream.' Georgetown, TX came in number two! Not too shabby. CNN noted that Georgetown has a 'business-friendly tax structure, entrepreneurial camaraderie' and is a scenic suburb of Austin. For those of us who live and do business here, that sounds about right.

6. Easy Commute to Austin
The great thing about Georgetown is that it developed as its own community with its own unique history--it's not a bedroom community of Austin. Back in the 19th century, 27 miles was a long trip. Now it's an easy commute to Austin--and most Georgetown residents regularly take advantage of the dining and cultural offerings of the capital. Many work in Austin as well. With Georgetown, it's the best of both worlds.
7. Southwestern University
Which city in Central Texas boasts the oldest University in all of Texas? I'll give you a hint...it isn't Austin. Southwestern University, a private liberal arts college in Georgetown, is the oldest University in the state and boasts a reputation for rigorous academics. This past year, the University re-introduced football and the games have been widely attended by members of the community.
8. Great Public Education
Georgetown boasts strong public education credentials. The Georgetown ISD has a student to teacher ration of 12:1. (The Texas average is 14:1 and the national average is 16:1.) And GISD also offers one of the best Career and Technical Education programs in the region. The Georgetown community has recently supported two major bonds to build new facilities and enhance existing ones.
9. Beautiful Parks & Trails
Great outdoor living is a central aspect of life in Georegetown. Georgetown residents take advantage of a remarkable natural landscape that includes the Inner Space Cavern, the Blue Hole Lagoon, and Lake Georgetown--a 2 square-mile lake that supports great bass fishing and boating. Fortunately, the city has focused on making these natural attractions accessible and enjoyable. There are over 9 miles of hike and bike trails along the North and South San Gabriel Rivers-- the San Gabriel River Trail was designated a National Recreatiion Trail by the US Dept. of the Interior in 2006! And San Gabriel Park was one of only nine parks in Texas in its inaugral year to be designated a Lone Star Legacy Park. So, if you're the outdoors type, you guessed it--you ought to be considering the homes for sale in Georgetown TX!
Georgetown is one of the safest cities of its size--not only in Texas, but in the nation. The Georgetown crime Index is 53% lower than the state average. The violent crime rate is 67% lower. There are only 1,746 crimes in Georgetown annually per 100,000 people, which is 45 percent below the national average. Many Georgetown residents don't lock their doors at night.
