With its rich, unique history the Old Town section of Georgetown is a perfect example of small town charm. At the heart of it all is the town Square--Texas' Most Beautiful. The famous Red Poppy Festival held each spring transforms the city center into a bustling scene of over thirty thousand people. The oldest university in Texas, Southwestern University, is just a mile from the square. And all around are beautiful, distinct homes--many a prime example of beautiful Victorian architecture.
Part of the reason why many of these homes have been able to retain their classic charm is the local historic ordinance which was passed in 1976. Large multi-story houses offer multiple rooms and large porches which harken back to a simpler, nostalgic time. Depending on your taste, buyers have lots of variety to choose from. Well-restored 3 bedroom homes typically start in the $400’s. Homes in need of some TLC and elbow grease represent a fantastic opportunity for customization-- as well as opportunities for reselling.
Over the past couple of years, the Square has seen a bit of a resurgence as more new tenants have moved in--including new restaurants, art galleries and professional offices. All of it's within easy walking distance of homes in Old Town. I-35 is conveniently accessible when you need to get to Austin or other areas. The schools around Old Town are part of the highly acclaimed Georgetown ISD, which include James E Mitchell Elementary, James N Tippet Middle School, and the Blue Ribbon recipient Georgetown High School.
If you're in the market for a little bit of historic charm, Old Town is just what you're looking for.
