Movoto Real Estate Blog Names Georgetown 'Most Caring'

Of course y’all already know I’m a little biased when it comes to Georgetown. I love this city and I'm constantly bragging on it to my real estate colleagues in Austin. There's more to real estate than just the homes for sale--it's the community a house is in that adds a lot of value. So I do happen to think it’s one of the best towns, in one of the best areas, abutting one of the best cities in the world. And not only that, I know we have the best, most friendly people living here that anyone could hope to find! So when the real estate blog movoto.com put out their Top Ten Most Caring Small Cities in America list last week – I wasn’t surprised to find Georgetown near the top of the list (I was a little surprised it wasn’t number one though!). I commend Movoto for recognizing that real estate is also about communities and the people who live there.

Great Volunteer Opportunities in Georgetown

One reason we ranked so high on the list is because of all of you – the residents of this great town who keep community service very near and dear to your hearts. So in honor of you, and in keeping with the spirit of being one of America’s Top Ten Most Caring Small Cities, I wanted to provide you with a list of great volunteer opportunities for you and your families to join in during this coming Holiday Season.

As always, Meals on Wheels and More provides ample opportunity for meaningful volunteer work year round, with extra volunteers needed around the holidays for meal preparation and delivery. But did you know that Meals on Wheels and More needs volunteers to provide other services to elderly or homebound clients such as dog walking, grocery shopping, handyman repairs, group activities for senior citizens and those living with any form of dementia? It’s easy to become a volunteer. Just visit their website, find the program you want to volunteer for, and contact the corresponding volunteer coordinator – easy as 1-2-3!

The Blue Santa and Brown Santa Christmas drives are always worth supporting. You and your kids can donate money, gifts, photography, or time to make ‘children’s Christmas brighter’ for low-income families in the area. If you want to make the volunteer experience come to life for you and your family in an even more personal way, consider adopting a family. Take on the responsibility of planning their perfect Christmas, and deliver their gifts together for a Christmas experience your family won’t forget.

In neighboring Round Rock, Thanksgiving Dinner “Annie’s Way” will be hosted at St. Williams Parish. Volunteers are needed to help provide a Thanksgiving Feast for those without family, those who are in need of a hot meal, or those who prefer to spend Thanksgiving surrounded by a warm and welcoming community.

Countless other opportunities for volunteerism exist in the area and if you don’t see anything here that meets your needs, try finding your dream volunteer position at www.volunteermatch.org. If you have a beloved organization that needs volunteers, please feel free to add their information in the comments below. We love hearing from you; you are the reason living in Georgetown is so great!
