Livin’ on the Edge: Get Outside of Austin

There are a million and one things going on in downtown Austin on any given weekend. Often times there are so many places to visit, and so much to do (and that’s before you take into account the live music, festivals, and other events that occur throughout the year), it’s overwhelming--not to mention the traffic you need to sit through in order to get there! With so much going on, it may feel like you never want to leave. However, your college apartment or condo won’t exactly work forever. Think about getting married and raising a family in your tiny space. Add a dog or two into your mental picture and you may be feeling pretty claustrophobic at just the idea of so many people in such a small space.

Growing Up, Moving Up

Millennials make up a pretty sizable chunk of the buyer’s market these days, which is an interesting combination. We say this because Millennials as a whole are buying homes later and, thanks to the myriad home buying shows on TV, come with a complex (and often impossible) list of expectations but no commensurate budget. Often, the expectations and budget don’t match because so many Millennials are adamant about staying deep in the heart of the city, thinking that’s the only way to truly experience Austin life at it’s best. Well, fortunately for you, this is not the case.

Setting Expectations

The realtors who make up the Russ Phillips Team want to help you make all your real estate dreams come true. Our clients aren’t just measured in property value or transactions; they’re family. And, like any good family members, we want to provide you with the support to make the best decision possible and the education to back up that decision so you can truly trust in whichever choice you make. For all of the Millennials feeling adamant about living downtown forever, we’d like to suggest an alternative: Live life on the edge of town.

Location Matters, But Not Like You Think

Living in downtown Austin comes at a premium. Yes, there is plenty to do, but it comes with a price tag that means living conditions are either too small to be sustainable or too pricey to be worthwhile. If you love the Austin life but not the real estate prices, our suggestion is to consider getting out of the city. Looking at homes for sale outside of town, charming towns like Georgetown, come with a wealth of benefits on their own, but keep you near enough that you can still enjoy all Austin has to offer. By expanding your search and living on the edge of town, you get all the perks of big-city life, but you’ll also get the lifelong welcome of a small-town community.
