AI Can Rank Real Estate Agents
*While I am a licensed Realtor®, I am not acting as your Realtor. Every real estate situation is unique, so please consult a professional who can provide advice tailored to your needs.*
But It Can’t Verify Integrity in Central Texas
More and more buyers and sellers are finding real estate agents through ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews, voice search, and online summaries. This isn’t a future trend. It’s already happening in Central Texas, including markets like Round Rock, Georgetown, Austin, Liberty Hill, and Williamson County.
AI is powerful.
It’s fast.
It’s efficient.
But here’s the part most consumers don’t realize:
AI does not verify truth.
It identifies patterns, not integrity.
And when it comes to choosing a real estate agent, that distinction matters.
A Real Conversation That Stopped Me in My Tracks
Recently, I met with a seller who researches for a living. This is someone who deeply understands artificial intelligence, data models, and where technology excels and falls short.
Before interviewing agents, he used ChatGPT to see which real estate agents ranked highest in our local Central Texas market.
Out of the top five agents that surfaced, three were making claims that could not be substantiated.
No MLS-verified production.
No confirmed awards.
No independent proof to support “top agent” or “leading expert” claims.
That wasn’t opinion.
That was research.
And it highlights a growing issue consumers need to understand - someone can be great at ranking high online without actually being a great real estate team or agent.
What AI Does Well (And Why It’s Still Useful)
Let’s be clear. AI is not the enemy.
AI is excellent at:
-
Aggregating massive amounts of online information
-
Identifying consistency and repetition across the internet
-
Surfacing names that appear frequently in content and backlinks
-
Speeding up early-stage research for buyers and sellers
As a starting point, AI can be incredibly helpful.
But problems arise when people assume that visibility equals credibility.
It doesn’t.
Where AI Falls Short in Real Estate Searches
AI cannot:
-
Verify MLS production numbers
-
Distinguish earned awards from paid placements
-
Confirm whether a publication feature was editorial or sponsored (paid for)
-
Audit transaction history
-
Detect exaggeration, omission, or inflated claims
-
Separate marketing copy from independently reviewed performance
If something is optimized well enough and repeated frequently enough online, AI will surface it, whether it is accurate or not.
That’s not a flaw. That’s how AI works.
The Paid Publication and Backlink Problem
Here’s something most consumers are never told.
Many online “features,” “best of” articles, and real estate awards are paid placements. Agents often pay for inclusion to earn a backlink, which improves SEO and AI visibility.
That does not automatically make an agent bad.
But it also does not mean the recognition was earned.
AI sees the backlink.
Consumers see credibility.
The truth lives somewhere in between.
How Smart Buyers and Sellers Are Vetting Agents Today
The seller I met with wasn’t impressed by bold claims. He wanted proof.
Here’s how savvy Central Texas buyers and sellers are separating fact from fiction when choosing a real estate agent:
Before hiring an agent, verify:
-
MLS-verified production, not screenshots or marketing graphics
-
Awards confirmed by brokerages, associations, or third-party audits
-
Consistency across platforms, not just one polished bio
-
Reviews with specific details, not vague praise or for someone who is no longer on the team or at the brokerage
-
Performance in the current market, not just peak years
-
The agent’s ability to explain strategy, not just quote stats
The strongest agents don’t avoid these questions. They welcome them.
And most importantly, INTERVIEW! Please, please interview agents - this is an important hire that you're making.
The Bottom Line for Central Texas Consumers
AI is changing how people find real estate professionals in Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Liberty Hill, and beyond, and that’s not a bad thing.
But AI should be the beginning of your research, not the conclusion.
The right real estate agent won’t just rank well online.
They’ll stand up to scrutiny in the real world. They can prove their success.
Whether you work with us or not, we believe consumers deserve honesty, transparency, and proof, not just polished claims.
